Many times the short stacked players will be pushing all-in with only average hands, not being able to wait for better hands. Consider this when you have a decent hand.
It is very hard to go deep in a big field event (one with thousands of players) if you play too safe. Having a big stack is vital in making a deep run. So, take some chances early to get that big stack. This approach will get you eliminated early sometimes, but when things go well, you will have a nice stack and a chance to go far.
Pay close attention to what the other players think of your style. If you create a loose image, people will not fold to you as much. A loose image will make you more chips when you have good hands.
