Your chip stack should dictate how you approach playing your hands. Just as important is the stack size of your opponent in any particular hand. The short stacks will just go all in, be ready for this.
When you play online, you can play in tournaments with thousands of players. A safe approach will not get you to the final table very often in such large events. You increase you chances greatly if you build a nice stack early in the tournament, so, take some chances to do so. Good players understand that it is worth the trade off of going out of a few more tournaments in order to have a big stack once in a while.
Keep track of what people will be thinking about your game. You can benefit from creating a loose image. With a loose image you can make big outrageous looking bets with good hands, and people will call you down.
